2012 in Japan, By the Numbers

Famitsu recently published a list of the top 100 selling games of 2012. Rather than presenting the entire 100-title long list, we are going to hightlight the Top 10 Best Selling Games of 2012, as well as the complete hardware sales for 2012 for Japan.  As you can see from the list below, Nintendo had a very good year here in Japan.

  • Pokemon Black & White 2 (DS) – 2,879,027 units sold
  • Animal Crossing New Leaf (3DS) – 2,286,977  units sold
  • New Super Mario Bros 2 (3DS) – 1,780,493 units sold
  • Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry’s Wonderland (3DS) – 849,410 units sold
  • One Piece Pirate Warrios (PS3) – 825,860 units sold
  • Mario Kart 7 (3DS) – 822,542 units sold
  • Resident Evil 6 (PS3) – 821,053 units sold
  • Monster Hunter 3 (3DS) – 776,171 units sold
  • Super Mario 3D Land (3DS) – 738,109 units sold
  • Dragon Quest X Online (Wii) – 633,827 units sold

Hardware Sales 2012

  • 3DS – 5,626,763 units sold
  • PS3 – 1,327,185 units sold
  • PSP – 941,992 units sold
  • Vita – 674,365 units sold
  • Wii U – 638,339 units sold
  • Wii – 492,999 units sold
  • 360 – 67,273 units sold
  • DS – 28,627 units sold
  • PS2 – 26,064 units sold
