Awesome Retro Videogame Show, GameCenter CX, is Getting a Movie and Much More

We’ve talked about the awesomeness that is GameCenter CX before, but for those of you who haven’t heard of the show, a brief synopsis: GameCenter CX has aired on Fuji TV here in Japan since 2003, and it follows comedian Arino Shinya as he attempts to play through some of the best and worst retro games of the late 80s and early 90s. According to a recent press conference for the show’s 10th anniversary, there is a whole lot more awesomeness on the way.

Arino announced at the 10th anniversary press conference that GameCenter CX will be making its way to theaters in Japan next spring. For those of you that aren’t long-time fans of the show, Arino has long joked that his ultimate goal for the show was for it to be turned into a movie. Well, it looks like Arino has finally gotten his wish.

Additionally, the show’s soundtrack will be released this July, and a special “GameCenter CX in Paris” episode will be airing this fall. Arino is also scheduled to play a live challenge at Japan’s famed Budokan Arena on November 5th.

Last, but certainly not least, a third GameCenter CX game will be released this winter for the 3DS. Unfortunately for fans of the show outside of Japan, the 3DS’s region-lock will make importing the game more than a little tough.

If you have never heard of the show before and want to check it out, I HIGHLY recommend you do so. A DVD boxset of some episodes was released in the US last year, and according to the show’s official US Facebook page they are currently working on securing a US distributor for video on demand. Kacho On!
